Two people were killed when a military helicopter crashed in central Texas near Fort Hood, a spokesman for the Bell County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday.

The crash occurred in the Fort Hood area in Bell County, according to Cliff Coleman, a spokesman for the Bell County Sheriff's Office. Coleman confirmed the fatalities but did not immediately release the identities of those killed or additional details about the circumstances of the crash.

The aircraft involved was an AH-64 Apache, a twin-engine attack helicopter used by the U.S. Army. Fort Hood, the largest active-duty armored post in the United States, is a frequent site for military aviation training and operations.
