Rémy Wyssmann said on Wednesday that he could be ready to stand for a seat on the Swiss Federal Council, while fellow Solothurn SVP politician Christian Imark ruled himself out.

Wyssmann presented his potential candidacy as an option for the seat that is expected to become available in the Federal Council. He did not announce a final decision in the information reviewed here.

The Solothurn politician said he was 59 years old and felt ready for the responsibilities of the office. In his words, he was «alt genug, um in Beruf und Politik geprüft worden zu sein, und jung genug für zwei volle Amtsperioden und darüber hinaus.»

Wyssmanns Begründung

That assessment concerned both his political experience and his age. It was intended to show readiness for a possible long-term commitment, although the reviewed facts do not specify whether he has formally entered the race.
